New Fairfield CT was formed from land purchased from the Schatiacooke Tribe. The town became incorporated of the lower half of the land in 1740. This lakeside community borders New York State to the west. The lakeside charm was once a popular summer home destination but many of the homes today are year round residences. Today, the population of the town is around 13,000 people. The community has the highest population of Irish American’s in Connecticut with 32% of residents claiming Irish ancestry.
